In the economic downturn of the last few years, the cost for elective cosmetic is coming down rapidly. A long time ago, more people had expendable money to spend on this procedure. Nowadays… people are a little more strapped for cash and have the tendency the save up money for tougher times. But wait, don’t leap into the procedure just yet. Before you are able to decide whether or not this treatment is for you, you must first understand your own condition. More than 90% of all males who report thinning hair, are suffering from the medical condition that is known as Male Pattern Baldness. In medical literature, this is referred to as Androgenic Alopecia. If you are suffering from this condition, some of your hair follicles have stopped producing hair.
There is a biological mechanism underlying this process and it has been pretty well documented in medical literature. There is a hormonal metabolite of the male hormone testosterone. This is is called dihydrotestosterone or DHT. It is this hormone that is responsible for breaking down our hair follicles, causing them to be unable to grow new hair. DHT is, unfortunately, produced naturally in men and women alike. Next to causing our hair to fall out, it is also responsible for causing enlarged prostates. This hormonal substance bonds with receptors that are present in the hair follicles. Hair follicles that have these receptors are predisposed to being lost, because of the fact that they have those receptors. As more DHT attaches itself to those receptors, the ability of those follicles to produce keratin. Keratin is the material from which the hair shaft is made. Once the hair shift is flimsy enough, it is completely unable to produce hair. The result: thinning and eventually baldness.
Do I Need A Hair Transplant?
Whether or not you need a hair transplant, is completely up to you. Going bald doesn’t automatically mean that you need to have this done. Hair restoration surgery is an elective surgery, meaning you don’t need it to save your life or anything silly like that. You never truly need to get one done. A person can merely want to have it done. It all depends on how much you are suffering from your hair loss and how much you’re willing to sacrifice to have one done.
Don’t feel ashamed to feel that you want to have this treatment done. You are not the only one who is willing to make a sacrifice to look better. Many have already gone before you. For instance, have a look at Billy Crystal’s hair transplant. Yes, you see that correctly. Celebrities have hair transplants too! As a matter of fact, the situation is quite the opposite. Especially famous people get hair surgery done. Billy used to look pretty good before he lost his hair. After having suffered from hair thinning… not so much. But now look at him!
But this treatment isn’t for young or middle aged men only. Older men can have it done as well. A good example of an older person getting this treatment would be Kenny Rogers’ hair transplant. As a popular singer and music maker, Kenny has to be in the spotlights on many occasions. When he lost his hair, he must’ve felt like he lost a part of his image. He opted to have his hair restored and he looks much better because of it!
There is nothing weird about wanting to have the procedure performed on you, so don’t feel ashamed about anything. Determine what your hair situation and your financial situation is, and then start weighing the pros against the cons. Only you can make this decision.
